I have done some research on this topic during the past weeks. There has been many changes outside Mauritius to bring forward a more representative judiciary. But on our island, it does not seem to be a problem at all! But God knows how we are racist?

Judges act in a way for the 'show' of public representation as here, we have a great diversity of culture and religion. If a judge seems to favor someone or to sentence someone according to his/her caste/religious belief/color/age/gender/sexual orientation then this judge is bound to be eradicated from the judicial system.

We do not have a formal debate for this in Mauritius. And I can't find cases of discrimination. In the past, however, I think there was judicial bias against women. But now we have more female judges in Mauritius.

‘Attaining a representative judiciary is difficult but necessary to ensure public confidence in the rule of law and to avoid decision partial to one particular segment of society in Mauritius.’ DISCUSS!! :)

Definitely such a system would be terrific but the problem is that the people who are in power will never let it happen because they won't be able to rule.

Politics is an ugly thing - the person who wanted to do good for the country gets deviated from the right path once he is in power. It's as evil as money.

Me personally, I don't think things are going to change in Mauritius. Yes, we're seeing many developments around the island but the legal and social framework hasn't changed for the better.

Now do you think an independent panel with impartial people all caring for the goodness of the island can become a reality?
